The Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office provides marine safety enforcement on the many bodies of water within our jurisdiction. This part time division operates from mid April until September of every year. Deputies are part-time marine certified who normally work weekends and various weeknights to enforce the waterway laws of the State of Michigan. This division is funded by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The Marine Deputies are fully deputized and empowered to make arrests for drunk driving, reckless driving, and operating under the influence of drugs. Deputies are also charged with enforcing the marine navigation laws, including proper flotation devices, proper vessel operation, lighting, emergency equipment and state certified drivers.
The Marine Patrol Division is under the command of Lieutenant Tim Parker.
