HCSO Detective Bureau

The Detective Bureau investigates complaints that are taken by Sheriff's deputies. The detectives are responsible to collect and analyze evidence, interview victims, witnesses and potential suspects. They conduct surveillance, reconstruct crime scenes, obtain search warrants and work closely with the Prosecutor's Office. The members of the Detectives Bureau are responsible for investigating all crimes committed with the jurisdiction of the Hillsdale County including:

  • Fraud
  • Identity Theft
  • Check Complaints
  • Criminal Sexual Conduct
  • Stolen Vehicles
  • Larcenies
  • Breaking & Entering
  • Armed Robbery
  • Assault
  • Drugs
  • Homicides/Death Investigations

The Detective Bureau is under the command of Lieutenant Roger Boardman. The Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office has two full-time detectives:  Detective Sergeant Lance Benzing and Detective Sergeant Mark Hodshire.
